Tips and Tricks for Eyeliner Rookies

Not all of us are born make up artists or have make up artists at our beck and call to look as dashing as Deepika Padukone all the time. But what we have is Critik, to give you tips and tricks that help you apply your own liner as well as any celebrity out there.

How to look at the mirror: Always look down at the mirror for more precise and even application. You won’t regret investing in a good quality table mirror.

Smokey Look: Smudge gel liner with a concealer brush for a smokey eye look that seems natural and not like you are trying too hard.

Correct Mistakes: You are not the first one whose hand slips or your eyes blink while applying liner. Always use a makeup primer to correct your liner. Dip a q-tip in your primer and draw over your mistake. Makeup remover would leave residual oil that will mix with your liner over time.

Winged Liner: Use a piece of paper or a post-it and keep it at the corner of your eye to draw the perfect wing. Make sure you hold the paper in the same manner on your other eye as well. You can also use a business card or a spoon for the same.

Trace: This is probably the best piece of advice on our list. Whether you are trying to draw a cat eye or a winged eye, trace the pattern with a light eye pencil first and when you’re satisfied draw over with a liner.

Mascara as liner?: If you are in a hurry, hold your mascara wand and press at the roots of your lashes and the mascara will settle between your roots and give you a close-eye think eye-opening liner look. Don’t forget to use mascara as regular mascara after.

Taupe Liner: Taupe coloured liner is your best friend when you want a non-makeup look but want your eyes to pop. Just line your eyelid with a taupe coloured eyeliner.

No matte liner?: After applying your glossy liner, dust a little bit of eyeshadow in the same colour as your liner on your eyelid to make your liner appear matte and it’ll also last longer.

Your own shade: Create your own shade of eye liner by using a wet liner brush and your favourite eye shadow. Tada! Thank me later.

Dotting the lid: If you find it very difficult to draw a straight and steady line on your lid, apply dots through your upper lash line and simply connect the dots!

Crumbly liner?: Freeze your liner for a good 15 minutes if it is too crumbly and flakes off while applying. The freezer will make it smooth.

Glitter: Just add some glitter to your lash line and head straight to that part from work.

Holding your eye: This may seem basic but many of us don’t do this. Go close to a mirror, look down and hold your eye for more control over where and what you are drawing.

Color: Black does not have to be your go-to liner colour. Although you could never go wrong with black, a shade of brown or steel grey will give you a better look than black. Just give it a try.

Shadow first: Always apply eye shadow first before applying eyeliner. This seems obvious but many of us forget. Otherwise the shadow will cover your liner.

Finishing Touch: When you are done applying your eyeliner, always take the time to apply the liner as close to your upper lash line as possible. And apply liner in between your lashes as well. This gives a more rounded look.

We have given you guys a list of the best liners as well as some great tips to get that liner on perfectly. Now what you can do is try these tricks and let us know which ones worked for you in the comments section. Also give us some more tips please!
